The obese patient study day
The Obese Patient - Key issues in perioperative nursing management
3rd October 2014 at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), London
BARNA and SOBA study day in collaboration with the RCN and sponsored by MSD
This joint study day aims to provide an in-depth exploration of the clinical risks and potential complications caused by obesity in the perioperative arena. Management initiatives will be a major focus for this forum, together with the latest information on equipment to manage the obese patient.
We in BARNA, are fortunate to be collaborating with SOBA (Society for Obesity and Bariatric Anaesthesia). This is a specialist organization for professionals concerned with the perioperative care of obese patients. Many of the speakers are anaesthetists leading the field in bariatric management.
The study day was conceived and designed by Nick Kennedy (SOBA Chair) and Pat Smedley (BARNA Education). Nick felt strongly that nurses and ODP’s should have the opportunity to have a study day focused primarily on the perioperative nursing management of the obese patient. Obesity has already become endemic in the UK and it is of major importance for all health care providers to be up to speed on its management.
There will be six formal presentations throughout the morning and early afternoon, however the last session will be interactive in structure. During this session groups will discuss common problems around obesity management and there will be a chance to feed back to the wider group. It is hoped to transcribe the major points emerging from of session.
In order to make the interactive session relevant and useful for everyone, we hope that you will complete the short survey on obesity management - found here.
Please complete this by the end of September even if you are not attending the study day.
The study day would not have been possible without the help and cooperation of the Royal College of Nurses, who have sponsored the event and provided the venue, and MSD, our main event sponsors. Our thanks to both organisations.
Please make sure you do not miss out on this unique study day. There are still places available – book today!
